Outreach Ministries

Outreach Ministries purpose is to reach out to those in our community and congregation to encourage them to develop and mature their walk with Christ. Join us there at New Hope Friends Meeting as we move out into our community to share the love of Jesus in practical ways. New Hope Friends Meeting provides and praticipates in many local caring ministries to those in need.

Meals on Wheels

New Hope Friends Meeting began a Meals on Wheels route that would provide nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and persons with disablities in the Elroy community near our church.

The Meals on Wheels program in Wayne County prepares the meals Monday thru Friday. Faithful volunteers pick up the meals from the WAGES building in town and drive on their appointed routes each day. The Elroy route, working out of our church delivers meals to approximately 10 to 12 homes. These meals are provided in an effort to improve health and reduce isolation. These meals are often able to help individuals remain independent and avoid institutionalization.

If you would like to bring a hot meal and a smile to the homebound one day a month, contact Danny Southerland or WAGES. You do not need to be a member or even attend New Hope Friends Meeting to participate in the caring ministry.

United Church Ministries

United Church Ministries is an organization of sixty Wayne County churches who come together to provide assistance to people who are in emergency situations. Assistance is offered in the areas of rent, utilities, medications, and food.

Share your blessings of food such as canned meats, fruits, vegetables, soups, peanut butter, rice cereal, and other non-perishables with those going through difficult times by bringing food to the church on the first Sunday morning of each month. These items are carried to the center at 119 West Walnut Street for distribution. Volunteers working at the center then screen each applicant to verify needs before assisting.

At New Hope Friends Meeting, we have two special offerings each year to assist with funding for United church Ministries. Our Soup Bowl offering is in January and another special offering is collected in the fall.

Love to walk? Then support the United Church Ministries' one fund raiser each year by participating in the Walk for Hunger held each spring. Walkers and sponsors are always needed.

If volunteering in this ministry sounds like something God is leading you to do, contact Darla Anderson or the church office for more information.

Outreach Ministries Team

The Outreach Ministries Team at New Hope Friends Meeting provides encouragement to those in our congregation by cards and visits. The team sends cards in response to prayer requests made for those going through difficult times. Each month Outreach makes home, hospital, and nursing home visits to shut-ins or those recovering from a surgery or hospital stay. Check the Sunday bulletin or newsletter for "Outreach Visitation" and join them in visiting.

Friends Disaster Service

North Carolina Friends Disaster Service is an outreach ministry of North Carolina Yearly Meeting. When winds, flood, fire or some other disaster destroys or seriously damages a home, NC Friends Disaster Service is ready to respond to the under or non-insured. It is through this service that volunteers, both men and women, with varying backgrounds and ages come together sharing their gifts of time, talents, and love, to build or repair a house for the family. It has been said the NC Friends Disaster Service does not just build houses, but rebuilds lives. If you would be willing to volunteer for a work trip to an area or home affected by hurricanes, flooding, or fires contact Marshall Cooke or NC Friends Disaster Service for more information.

National and International Missions
