Choir Director

Denny Sutton

Denny Sutton joined New Hope Friends Meeting in 1966.  His love for music began when he was in elementary school.  Falling in love with the trumpet, he joined the band and learned to play.  In his high school years Denny excelled to Captain of the band, 3rd class musician, and All-State Band. He was also a member of the high school dance band and an officer of the dance band.  He later became one of the founding members of the popular Spectacular’s, singing lead and playing trumpet.  The band played for school dances, civic organizations, and other groups all over eastern North Carolina.

After giving his heart and life to Jesus Christ in 1966, Denny became the choir director of New Hope Friends Meeting and held that position until June of 1995.  During those years he joined The Watchman Quartet, singing tenor for the group until the spring of 1992. In the fall of 1992 he became the founding member, tenor singer and manager of The Royal Descendants, retiring this group on December 31, 2013.

In the late summer of 2011, New Hope Friends was in need of a new choir director.  After much thought and prayer and meeting with his pastor, Bill Garner and the music committee, Denny agreed once again to accept the position as choir director and music leader.

Denny is married to Linda Daniels Sutton. They have two boys, Alan and wife Jeannie and David and wife Shay.  They have four beautiful granddaughters who are the apple of his eye.

Denny enjoys using his talent and love for music in a God given way and he will be quick to tell you, The Hand of the Lord has been on him all the way.
