    Andrew Hise

As the summer comes to a close and my favorite time of the year begins, I cannot help but be thankful for how God has greatly blessed me over the past four months as pastor of New Hope. These four months have been some of the most challenging, most rewarding, most frustrating and most fulfilling months of my life. I cherish the friendships that we have already made, the sweet fellowship that we enjoy each time we get together with other saints, and the amazing kindness of all the people of this church who work hard to see people come to know Jesus. One thing that God has really impressed on my heart over these past months is my desperate need for Jesus. My prayer is for all of us to come to a place where we see this overwhelming need in our lives and because of that many more will come to know and love Jesus.

We have begun a new series on the book of Philippians this past month. I am excited about how God is going to use this series to conform us more to the image of Jesus. The book of Philippians mainly deals with the idea of joy that comes from fellowship/partnership in the gospel. In the first week of the series, we defined true fellowship as a “self-sacrificing conformity to a shared vision” (DA Carson). Through this series, we are asking ourselves what is the next step that each of us need to take toward a self-sacrificing conformity to the gospel. For some, we need to get more involved with discipling others or teaching, for others we just need to spend more time with Jesus through prayer and Scripture reading. Some need to seek help from loving Christian brothers and sisters for struggle in sin. Wherever you fit in, I pray that you will ask yourself: What is my next self-sacrificing step toward conformity to Jesus?
